Overview
Maximum mode in PDF JustFit converts each page into an image and compresses it. Because it no longer needs to preserve embedded fonts and text objects, it can reach sizes that Smart mode cannot.
What Maximum compression does
- Rasterises pages, so each page is stored as an image.
- Produces the smallest possible output of the two modes.
- Prioritises size above text selectability.
When to choose Maximum compression
Choose Maximum when a hard limit leaves no room for negotiation: a strict upload cap, an email gateway, or a portal that rejects anything above a fixed size.
Because pages become images, a Maximum-compressed PDF is best treated as a final delivery format rather than a document you will keep editing or querying.
Maximum compression and OCR
If you need both the smallest file and searchable text, the practical order is: run OCR so the text is recognised, then compress. In PDF JustFit, scanned pages are OCR-recognised automatically so that nothing is left out of the document index.

Frequently asked questions
What is Maximum compression in PDF JustFit?
Maximum compression rasterises pages for the smallest possible output. It is the second of the two compression modes in PDF JustFit, alongside Smart mode.
Will my text still be selectable after Maximum compression?
No. Maximum mode rasterises pages, so text is no longer selectable. If you need selectable text, choose Smart mode instead.
